TODD ABBOTT WINTERS
Education: University of
Texas at Austin, B.A. Fine
Art, 1983
Major: Studio Arts
Professional History:
After graduating and becoming a full-time professional
artist at the age of 24, Winters’ work
fast gained national and international recognition
through selective juried art exhibitions. Winters
has been accepted into nearly 300 juried shows,
held nearly 50 one-man shows, and won countless
awards of merit. His work has been purchased
by collectors of every U.S. State and is
found in over 25 other countries.
From 1989-1999, Winters owned and operated
his own gallery in Taos, New Mexico. In 1999, the Winters family embarked upon
a 13-month travel odyssey dubbed Trip 2000.
They visited 48 states and Canada,
traveling well over 25,000 miles in a motor
home. A painting trip equal to none, every day
Winters painted scenes campground to campground.
The trip was completed in August 2000, and to
this day Winters returns to his travels in his
studio as his theme remains, “Painting America.”
In 2002, Winters and his family moved to the scenic
Texas Hill Country to the town of Kerrville. Here,
he continues to paint a wide variety of expressive
subjects at his open studio/gallery located in a historic
artist colony of Ingram.
Winters has produced more than two dozen fine
art reproductions and has assisted other artists in
the process of self publishing. Painting full time
since 1985, he has produced and sold over 4,500
paintings of a wide variety of subjects. Strong in
concept, Winters work is visually inspiring, painting
in both watercolor and acrylic, with each often handled
in a different manner. Half of his work is realism, the other half is more conceptual, exaggerated,
and surreal. Winters trademark is the
magnificent color and simplified composition in his
paintings, emphasizing rich color and
contrast.
